Graeme Hunter was named Hedland’s Citizen of the Year in the recent Australia Day awards. It is not hard to see why.
Graeme has a strong community focus in everything he does, with an emphasis on public safety.
He is the Captain of the Port Hedland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service which plays an active role in fire prevention, rescue, and community education and safety in Hedland. Graeme has helped expand the group and led its firefighters to become not just a team but a family. He is committed to the Hedland community and is passionate about promoting fire safety and community awareness. He has passed this enthusiasm to new members who now serve our community.
Graeme also enjoys the Christmas tradition of dressing as Santa as the Fire and Rescue Service members deliver presents to local children. In between all this, he manages to find time to volunteer as an ambulance officer. And he keeps up a full-time day job as manager of hydraulic equipment supplier Specialised Force.
Thank you Graeme for your efforts to help keep Hedland locals safe. Your leadership is much appreciated, and your Citizen of the Year award is very much deserved!
