Mudmee Vigar is well-known in Hedland as a leader in the Thai and broader local community and loves sharing her culture and bringing people together from a variety of backgrounds.
So it’s not surprising that Mudmee has embraced Hedland Collective’s StreetNet concept as a way of strengthening the links in her immediate community.
She recently hosted a StreetNet get-together on her street in South Hedland. Twenty people attended, with each guest invited to bring along a dish from their cultural background to share and celebrate in her front yard.
Mudmee also did some Thai cooking and performed a traditional dance to entertain her neighbours and new friends.
There was more than enough food to go around so leftovers were donated to the police and other local organisations.
Mudmee tells us it was a wonderful opportunity to meet new people on her street and is looking forward to hosting another StreetNet get-together. Next time it will be in a local park so she can accommodate more people!
Hedland StreetNet is a simple way of connecting with your neighbours. It brings people together and helps build a safe, supportive network of families and friends to enrich and enliven the streets we live in.
Hedland Collective can help get you started with a host pack which contains everything you need to host a get-together, including links to join an online community. We will work with you to plan the gathering and provide a $100 Woolworths voucher to put towards food and event supplies, thanks to an FMG Community Grant.
If the StreetNet host shares photos from the StreetNet get-together with the community Facebook page, they will go into a draw to win a $250 StreetNet Kmart voucher.
