Strong Leadership is an important part of our work at the Hedland Collective. Here in Hedland, we are home to so many visionary leaders. Aboriginal leaders, leaders in business, leaders in politics, youth leaders and leaders in community. And we committed to inspiring and supporting these people to be the leaders of today and tomorrow, helping them to succeed every step of the way.
You may have seen that the Town of Port Hedland is currently looking for prospective candidates who want to stand for council. For those excited to apply, we say go for it, and for those who might be interested but thought ‘hmm, that’s not really for me’, we’re here to change your mind.
Having strong leadership is so important to any community, and we know there are plenty of fantastic leaders here in Hedland. Just head into town or check out our Local Leaders campaign and you’ll see there are people showing leadership, encouraging others and chasing their passions all across the community.
You don’t have to come from a certain background or be part of a certain group to be a councillor. It’s not just about policy or politics. It’s about being passionate and having a love of your community. And we know, so many of you are.
Great councillors are everyday people who understand the challenges and opportunities that come with life in Hedland. They are people who want to give back to their community and work together with others to ensure that our community is a great one to live. They are people with fresh ideas and new ways of looking at things. And they are people just like you.
So if you’re interested in learning more, attend the Town of Port Hedland’s information session at 5.30pm on Monday 31st August in the Civic Centre Chambers to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of Council and Elected members and what exciting opportunities lie ahead.
Nominations for the election open at 8am on Thursday 3 September and close at 4pm on Thursday 10 September 2020.
